The race will have a "gun start" and chip timed finish.  This means that all participants will have the same start time, and that the finish time will be recorded when the runner crosses the finished line.   Timing services will be provied by Ultimate Race Management.

Eligibility

1 Mile Fun Run/Walk - Children and adults. (Parent may accompany child.)
5K - All individuals who are able to run and/or walk the course.

To be eligible for USATF awards, athletes must be a current USATF Member and a 12 month resident of NC.  

For safety's sake no headphones, pets, baby joggers, roller blades, skates or bicycles in the 5K. They are not covered by our insurance.

Both races will start and finish in the parking area near WFU's BB&T Football Stadium. From Business I-40, exit 5C to Cherry Street, north to University Parkway, turn east on Deacon Boulevard, and north into the stadium parking lot.  


 2014 Entry Fees

 5K - $30.00 until June 30th; $35.00 until July 25th ; $35 on July 26th (includes race T-shirt for first 1,000 entries) 

You will not incur a service fee for the 5K race if you register online with Active.com.

1 Mile Fun Run/Walk - $5.00 through race day (no T-shirt); $10 (includes T-shirt).   Add $4 for online registration for the Fun Run.

Or at the race site on Saturday race day beginning at 5:00pm.  Registration will end 30 minutes prior to the event.    Cash or checks only for late registration.  
Credit card payments will NOT be accepted for late registration on Friday and Saturday.

 

Weather Policy

If the races should be cancelled, delayed or postponed for any reason outside the direct control of the Race Director (inclement weather; local, state or national emergency; or conditions on the race course), refunds will not be given, but arrangements will be made for participants to pick up their shirts.

Lodging Information

Courtyard by Marriott is within walking distance of the BTH race.  They are located at 3111 University Parkway in Winston-Salem and can be reached at 336.727.1277. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Courses

5K USATF Certified (NC11048PH) , USATF Sanctioned, RRCA sanctioned, course is predominately flat and fast. Traffic will be monitored.

1 Mile Fun Run/Walk - The course is flat. Traffic will me monitored.

Water at mile 1, 2, and at finish.

Entry Fee Include

T-Shirt for the first 1,000 entries.

Open Male - Bobby Mack 14:13 (2012)
Open Female - Blake Phillips Russell 16:11 (1999)

A bonus prize of $200 will be offered for setting a new course record.

 North Carolina 5K Records

Open Male - Scott Dvorak  14:08 (1997)
Open Female - Laura Mykytok 15:50 (1994)

A bonus prize of $1,000 will be offered for setting a new NC USATF state record in the open division for 5K distance.  Record must be recognized as official by USATF to receive the prize money.

Awards Ceremony

The awards presentation will be held immediately following the race.

2014 NC-USATF Prize Money: $5,000

Open: (Men and Women)  1st - $1,000, 2nd - $500, 3rd - $200, 4th - $150, 5th - $125, 6th - $100

Masters: (Men and Women): 1st $150, 2nd $100, 3rd $50

Grand Masters: (Men and Women): 1st $75, 2nd $50

No double dipping.  If someone places in two categories, the awarded placement will be the one where they win the most money.  

To be eligible for USATF awards, athletes must be a current USATF Member and a 12 month resident of NC.   USATF eligibility will be verified after the race. Cash prizes will be mailed to winners after eligibility has been confirmed for all USATF award winners and final verification of times and placement.

2014 Age Group Awards 

Age Group Awards will win a Beat the Heat Glass, provided for the top 3 finishers (excluding USATF winners) in the following age groups.

14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and over

Beat the Heat will not have the WAVA Age-Graded competition in 2014.

Fun Run Awards

Trophies for the top Fun Run finishers.

Finisher awards for all one mile Fun Run participants.

Awards presentation held immediately following the race and will not be mailed.
