What's the scoop on the Loop? What were the reasons given for it's cancellation? (And what would it take to get it back?)

Insurance issues. The club requires events to cover our volunteers on their liability insurance, they felt we should provide it. We offered to find some for extra cost, they elected not to bear extra costs. Since we couldn't provide services, they cancelled the race.

Bringing it back for this year is impossible. With this short of a time period getting the word out for a turnout would be a heroic effort. I'm not sure about the future. They'd planned a 5K for this fall that I assume is in doubt also.

The club can't afford to assume the liability since one lawsuit would wipe us out. The waiver doesn't keep someone from suing, and it wouldn't have to be a big settlement. We could raise our rates and obtain additional insurance, but that likely wouldn't please other area events we do that already have that issue covered.

Lewisville would have the option of just renting equipment and recruiting people on their own to put on the race. That's how the Mercy Five Miler and Y Biathlon work.

Thanks for the clarification. It's not what I was hoping to hear, but hopefully they can get themselves better situated for next year.

I'm always sorry to hear of any races getting cancelled around here.
