Okay, so it has taken me over a year and a half [since October 2003] to finally put together a race that I feel justifies my relinquishing the Helmet of Doom/Shame. I tried getting engaged to a Board member, but it did not work. I tried running in a few 5k's and helping out with a few of the social events - but again, I could not rid myself of the Helmet. I am still at a loss to why I received it...What is SO wrong with a 5 hour and 14 minute marathon time in Chicago - I mean, I did FINISH! Yes, with bloody feet and dragging one leg behind me, but I did FINISH! Well, after much training [I am now a firm believer in getting ALL of your long runs in] I finished the 2005 Myrtle Beach Marathon standing up and still running. Did I head straight to the massage table? Yes. Did I want to cry because my legs hurt? Yes. Am I still a bit sore after two days? Yes. BUT, I did have a respectable time - 3:05:07 - and am already looking forward to getting over that 3 hour hurdle. Sandman, have you ever run a sub-3? Oh yeah...10 times in 10 years... Well, whether it was Claudia, or the Helmet, or the little napkin I signed LATE one night at a bar in Wilmington stating my next marathon would be sub-3, I am happy to have the helmet cleaned, shined, and ready for the next recipient... Race well this year - or beware! -James |

| Well James, if he doesn't get off his butt we may need to award it to Sandman for lifetime achievement of doom. Ten sub 3's to struggling for three sub 10's. |

Congratulations James....not for your fantastic 3:05 at Myrtle Beach but for getting engaged to Claudia. Good luck in the future with your running and running together with Claudia. Tinman |
