Ok, this Icon looks just like I imagine my face did as I wiped out on the downhill side of the causeway (running as hard as I possibly could) at 5:30 am in pitch blackness on the last leg of a 6 mile hill training workout. I didn't even realize how badly I was bleeding until I got up and finished the final 1/4 mile of the run. (All the lights were out on the east side of the bridge which is how I missed the raised manhole cover--part of which is now permanently tatooed on my right knee.) It wasn't funny at the time; it was excruciatingly painful and took all my being not to cry in front of the runners I was with. The x-rays showed no breaks, but my left arm and right knee still bear deep, thick scars 9 months later! Left arm? Right knee? I still dont get how that worked! It must have looked pretty funny in hindsight! If you have a funny, odd, gross, or otherwise fantastic story of yourself as a guest runner, or why you will never again run with a particular guest-runner send me an email:
