Any suggestions on what to do when a truck or car actually swerves towards you? This never happened in to me on the streets of wild Miami (and I've logged thousands of miles), yet on the rural backroads of Clemmons I've had two dangerous encounters during my first two months as a new resident. I am still stunned to think this was intentional. I witnessed the same thing happen to my husband who was about .2 of a mile ahead of me. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or insight. Jen |

Yes, I have had some of the same occurrences in my running career. During one run coming down Runnymeade, I am fairly sure a person intentionally threw a cup of ice at me. Fortunately, the cup made contact with my hip, not my head. One of the things you are already doing right is not running alone. If you have not already, I would suggest getting a Road ID tag in case something does go wrong. There are many options. Just go to RoadID.com for more information. If you feel that you need to run offroad, you can run the cross-country course that they use for the Ultimate Runner at Hanes Park, the Salem Lake 7-mile Loop, the Salem Creek Greenway, and the Tanglewood Cross-Country course just outside of Clemmons. Never run the Salem Creek Greenway alone. If you are willing to take a drive to Greensboro on the weekends, they have nice watershed trails around Bur-Mil Park and the Bicentennial or Lake Brandt Greenways. I am sorry that your introduction to our area has not been as friendly as it should have been. If you need more information on these locations, feel free to e-mail me from my website at www.924running.com Chris Elliott www.924running.com |
